Dear Families,

On this First Sunday of Lent, Mark’s Gospel tells us that the Spirit drove Jesus into the desert for 40 days. Jesus was tempted by the devil. Jesus was not alone in the desert. Jesus was among wild beasts and the angels ministered to him. We also learn that after John the Baptist was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God proclaiming “The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel.”

Ash Wednesday was the beginning of Lent. When we received our ashes on our foreheads, we heard the words “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.” As we begin this first week of Lent, let’s read the scriptures which will help us understand the joy of God’s love for us. How He is there for us when we are tempted to do something wrong. When we turn to the Gospels, it gives us the strength to pray, fast, and give to others. Let’s repent of our sins, and know that God is there to help us. Like Jesus teaches us, let’s proclaim to others through our actions that the “Kingdom of God is at hand.”

Querida Familias,

En este primer domingo de Cuaresma, el Evangelio de Marcos nos dice que el Espíritu llevó a Jesús al desierto durante 40 días. Jesús fue tentado por Satanás. Jesús no estaba solo en el desierto. Jesús vivió entre los animales salvajes, y los ángeles le servían. También aprendemos que después de que Juan el Bautista fue arrestado, Jesús fue a Galilea proclamando el evangelio de Dios: "Se ha cumplido el tiempo y el Reino de Dios ya está cerca. Arrepiéntanse y crean en el Evangelio".

El Miércoles de Ceniza fue el comienzo de la Cuaresma. Cuando recibimos nuestras cenizas en la frente, escuchamos las palabras: "Apártate del pecado y sé fiel al Evangelio". Al comenzar esta primera semana de Cuaresma, leamos las Escrituras que nos ayudarán a entender el gozo del amor de Dios por nosotros. Cómo Él está ahí para nosotros cuando somos tentados a hacer algo malo. Cuando acudimos a los Evangelios, nos da la fuerza para orar, ayunar y dar a los demás. Arrepintámonos de nuestros pecados y sepamos que Dios está ahí para ayudarnos. Como Jesús nos enseña, proclamemos a los demás a través de nuestras acciones que el "Reino de Dios ya está cerca".
